SHOEI RC3 CUSTOM PAINT

(sometime in 2003...2011)

About 10 -15 years back I bought this SHOEI RC3 MTB helmet, that was the one use from Greg Herbold a 1990 world champion in downhill.

The Shoei RC3 was different than other helmets, and I loved it from the first day.

Many many years later (2003) I thought to make it new, because the current mtb helmets are all shit if compared to the old shoei rc3, and this is why I started this project.

The helmet is made of plastic and was covered of stickers, troy lee stuff!!

I made few tests with the computer and I choose the paint scheme:

the job starts with a grounding sand action to spray a good adhesion promoter (gray primer)

second step a base coat, white for me

now, let's play with the computer again to make masks..

plotted and sticked to paint the red part:

one day later, same procedure for the blue part: masking and painting

the visor....

I used tamiya colors, and I discovered that they are not compatible with the final clear two pack coat...

anyway, after few days of work, this is the result, ready for the last free hand paints (shades , and high-lines)

a nice clear coat and the helmet is ready !! (thanks at Enrico Guatti - SV for the nice clearing job done)

since this is too beautiful I chose to make my flight helmet in the same way ... and this is the result!!
