INDEXABLE TOOLHOLDER VBMT 11

(JUN 2007)

JOB DONE MAN!!

This is the box of VB inserts that I have bought. I chose the vbmt 11 02 02 insert because many times I need a really sharp tool to make corners or difficult small step on the lathe.

So, here it is the box of 10.

Like all my tools (well, for the moment), I am starting from a 303 Steel rod 16 * 16. I cut few bits of 125mm which I will use for other tool holders too.

right, the 125mm bit is ready to be mounted on the mill.

next step is to mount the workpiece , ready for the surface machining.

This time I am trying to use the rotary table as angle reference. I am working with a 35° insert, which is 17,5° each side, from the middle line.

I am lucky that a positive toolholder doesn't require a lamba (side) angle, because I will be in troubles to mount and hold a piece with a component of 2 angles!! (check out how I made the 2 angles component clamp on the threading tool...but I haven't use the rotary table!)

I have set the table at 0° perfectly checking with the DTI. for my table each hole in the wheel is 0,2°. to get a 35° of VBMT, I go for a +4,7 turns and -4,8 turns. (unfortunately 4.75 isn't possible! but 0,1° it is not gonna be a problem!)

the first miling step is to make the main two faces at +/-17,5 .. Hssco Hitach 16mm rough mill is the king! Photo shows the finishing pass with a 16mm Hss dormer mill.

I didn't made photos during the machining of the top sitting slot, I was too focused on the machining !!

this next photo shows you the final cut to adjust the side of the holder.

wight, the holder is almost completed, I need to buy a M2.5 mm tap to drill and tap the M2.5 screw sitting....this stupid VBMT insert is 2.78mm in the hole, so I cannot use the M3 screw!!! fuck it!!!
