GEORG X3 MOTOR SWAP
GEORG X3 MOTOR SWAP
Check out this nice motor swap for the X3 / super X3 mill, made by “Jorge”, from Germany!

The target for the conversion of the motor was to use the original belt,
wheel and pinion. Furthermore I didn'nt like to change anything on the
new motor axle. Therefore I have to locate the new motor in such a way
that the pinion will be in the same level as the wheel of the pinole.
This situation leads to a flange of a thickness about 42 mm. As I didn't
have such a material, I took two pieces. One as a flange at the motor
and the other as a distance piece on top ofthe spindle structure. The
motor flange can be moved against the distance part to stretch the
belt.
Nevertheless it is a must to make a drawing of the real situation, to be
shure that everything will match together.
the 27mm thick distance part on top of the
cover of the pinion structure.
Next foto "mot_ritz.jpg" shows the assembled motor with the pinion. The
pinion was glued to the motor -axle.
And finally the assembled parts:
The final modified mill you will see above. In the final version I
hard-anodized the flange and the distance piece in a black colour.
This conversion I will never miss, because there are ways between the
old dc-drive and the 3-phase drive. Even the threading can be done in a
smoother way than before. But this is a result of the confortable
frequency-converter.
In the meantime I realized that the german deliverer of this mill is
going to change the original dc-drive. The 3-phase frequency-converter
driven ac-motor is more reliable and better and smoother to be
controlled. Obviously the dc-control electronics was subject of
problems.
