DIY PROJECTOR SCREEN 115”

(aug  2005)

JOB SUPER DONE , MAN

Projector screens are expensive and I had the nice idea of build my own one.

A screen is better than a white wall because the light must be reflected in the right way and the wall are not made to reflect the light. properly. The problem making a screen is to find the right cloth that is the most important component of a screen. I made many experiments and after all I choose my cloth that is a 9.99 gbp blackout cloth! I am very happy with that and looks amazing.

For the frame I probably made something too strong, more than some 3k screens, because I used aluminum profiles of 2" x 1" 5mm wall!!

the" making of "starts with the drilling operations, there are 64 holes to do, 8 each corner and 16 + 16 for the central compression rod.

this is a particular of the center rod link with 8+8 = 16 holes and 16 bolts/nuts.

and this is a corner with two angle plates well visible, two are for max rigidity

It is very important to make few wood blocks to insert into the alu profile where the bolts will clamp otherwise the aluminium will be compressed (crunched) from the bolt clamping force. The next photo shows you one of the many wood blocks inserted: one each link

Few hours machining holes .. ..64 holes, 64 bolts, 64 nuts and 128 washers and 16 angle plates and the frame is mounted. I screwed on the profile a small 10mm x 40mm wood bar that will be used to staple the cloth.

on top of the screen a white (will be black) profile will be installed to make as a "TV border".

particular of shape of final  TV STYLE border

parts are ready to be moved at home.

before go home I made these two stands, because I don't like to make holes in the walls to hang the screen!!!

once at home the scrren is mounted in 15 minutes and add 30 min to stretch the cloth. there is a precise procedure to follow to have a equally flat surface.

on top of the screen the final black border is installed and now the screen is readt for the test!!

the result is amazing! I am using a 1280 * 720 hi def panasonic projector with a DVI to HDMI cable, I don't have normal dvd player, I watch all from the computer: dvds, mprg, photos, etc....

two months later I had to break down it and re - mount in a different house because i changed house!! the projector screen is good for the new house and looks still very professional!!! look at that!!

do you want to buy a plasma ? ahahahaha........

this is my projector, a panny pt ae 700
